As a result of the earthquake that occurred on May 7, 2012 in the North-Western region of Azerbaijan, the Zagatala region was particularly devastated. Hundreds of houses were destroyed or rendered useless during the 7-magnitude earthquake.
Our state immediately provided first aid, and the rescue forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were involved in the area. Villagers were evacuated from the rubble and hospitalized.
Relevant commissions have been set up to determine the condition of damaged buildings. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has set up tents for residents whose homes have been severely damaged.
The normal operation of infrastructure facilities in the region has been restored. As a continuation of the steps taken, many public organizations, including the “Damla” Public Union, have not been left out of the work to help the devastated region. Based on humanistic principles, “Damla” Public Union launched a campaign to help the earthquake-affected population of Zagatala in May.
During the three-day campaign, with the help of ordinary citizens, as well as philanthropists, a large amount of clothes, household items, medicines and money were collected. Employees of “Damla” Public Union visited the area where the earthquake occurred on May 21, 2012 to deliver the collected aid and money to those in need.
They met with the affected residents of Bazar, Gimir and Chobankol villages of Zagatala and met the needs of 110 families, albeit temporarily. Household goods and items most needed by the earthquake-affected population were registered and the aid campaign to Zagatala was continued. Afterwards, various items donated to the association’s fund by philanthropists and intended for aid were packaged by type and sent to the region. As a charity organization “Damla” Public Union, expresses its gratitude to all the helpers who took part in this action.
